Staff

Our staff members are qualified and dedicated. We believe it is vital to keep our staff up to date with all aspects of care for our residents; which is why we have a programme in place to satisfy all our training needs.

The majority of our employees are situated in our residential home – Lear House - where we have a team consisting of 3 Senior Carers and17 Carers covering Day and Night shifts. We also have a team of 3 domestic workers and someone handling our day to day maintenance.  All of the staff in Lear House is managed by our Registered Manager, who is a State Registered Nurse.

We employ 3 housekeepers who look after the cooking and day to day running of our sheltered accommodation. Between them they keep both houses running with the help of our domestic cleaner who ensures that both houses are kept pristine.

We also have a small team in the office comprising a Chief Executive Officer, Society Treasurer and Society Administrator.

What Our Volunteers Do

Volunteers undertake a range of roles including:

- Being a trustee of the society
- Befriending residents
- Arranging social events
- Funding raising
- Monitoring health and safety
- Managing house staff
- Selecting new residents
- Managing maintenance
- Managing budgets

Recruitment
Because of the vulnerability of Abbeyfield residents, great care has to be taken in the recruitment of staff and volunteers who work directly with them. Anyone wishing to volunteer will be required to complete an application form, and references will be sought from two referees.  A check will be undertaken with the Criminal Records Bureau, as required by the regulatory authorities. Anyone with a criminal record will not automatically be barred from volunteering; every application will be reviewed on its own merits.

Volunteer’s Handbook

Each volunteer will be given a Volunteers’ Handbook which outlines in detail all of the issues relating to working within our Society, i.e;

 Training-Equal Opportunities-Confidentiality-Health & Safety-Expenses

There is also a range of other publications for Volunteers/Trustees of Abbeyfield Member Societies entitled Making Sense which are regularly updated to ensure that volunteers are fully aware of their roles and for trustees to be aware of their legal responsibilities.

The titles are:

- The Chair
- The Treasurer
- The Secretary
- Executive Committee Member
- The House Committee
